How to Use Disney World Secret Entrances Like a Pro

If you’re reading this, you’re already thinking differently than most Disney guests. The majority of people arriving at Walt Disney World just follow the signs. They go where the arrows point, take the transportation that’s in front of them, and end up in the same bottlenecks as everyone else. You’re here because you suspect there’s a better way in. There is.

Let me walk you through what actually works, what the experience is really like, and how to know which option makes sense for your trip.

MAGIC KINGDOM

Walking under the Monorail on the way to the Contemporary Resort from the Magic Kingdom (Image: Dustin Fuhs)

This is the one that makes the biggest difference and the one I recommend most consistently.

Here’s the problem with the standard Magic Kingdom arrival. You park at the Transportation and Ticket Center or get dropped off there, then you choose between the ferry and the monorail, both of which are already loaded with people who made the same choice at the same time. You arrive at the front of Magic Kingdom having already waited twice, already slightly drained, and already behind the guests who found a smarter way in.

The Contemporary Resort walkway skips all of that. You take an Uber or a bus directly to the Contemporary, walk a short path that actually takes you under the monorail beam, clear a separate and almost always shorter security line, and arrive at the Magic Kingdom turnstiles fresh. The walk itself is genuinely pleasant. There’s something about approaching the park from that angle, under the monorail, with the castle coming into view, that feels completely different from the TTC shuffle.

When I’m staying on property or off property, one of the first things I do after checking in is pull up Uber and check what it would cost to get to the Contemporary the next morning. That number tells me whether it makes more sense than waiting for a Disney bus. More often than not, it does.

Now here’s the part most articles leave out. Disney has become more attentive about guests arriving at the Contemporary without a reason to be there. On our last trip, security stopped our driver and asked whether we had a dining reservation at the resort. This is where having a Steakhouse 71 breakfast reservation changes everything. It gives you a completely legitimate reason to be there, the food is genuinely good, and you walk out of breakfast and directly into the park. It also means you’re starting your Magic Kingdom day with a real meal instead of trying to navigate food with park crowds already building.

What you don’t want to do is have your driver say you’re walking to the park. Lead with the restaurant every time.

Is this entrance right for everyone? Not necessarily. If you’re staying at a Magic Kingdom area resort and already have monorail access from your hotel, the advantage shrinks. But if you’re staying at a value resort, a moderate, or off property, the Contemporary walkway is almost always worth the Uber cost when you factor in what you’re skipping.

EPCOT

World Traveller Entrance at EPCOT (Image: Dustin Fuhs / StepstoMagic)

This one has become less of a secret since the Skyliner launched, but the number of guests who still don’t know about it or don’t use it is genuinely surprising.

The International Gateway is the back entrance to EPCOT, located between the France and United Kingdom pavilions in World Showcase. Most guests enter EPCOT through the main entrance at the front of the park, walk through Future World, and eventually make their way to World Showcase. If you use the International Gateway, you enter directly into World Showcase and work from there.

If you’re staying at a Skyliner resort, Caribbean Beach, Riviera Resort, Pop Century, or Art of Animation, the gondola drops you off steps from this entrance. The ride itself is one of the more underrated experiences at Disney World, comfortable, scenic, and a genuinely relaxing way to start a park day. You step off, walk a short distance, and you’re inside EPCOT with almost no queue at the turnstiles.

If you’re not on a Skyliner resort, you can take a Disney bus to the BoardWalk Inn or Yacht and Beach Club and walk over. It adds a few minutes but you still arrive at a far calmer entrance than the main gate.

Here’s what you need to factor in before choosing this entrance. You’re entering at the back of the park. If your first priority of the day is an attraction in Future World, you’re going to be walking the full length of EPCOT to get there while everyone who came through the main entrance is already in line. Know your first move before you choose your entrance. If World Showcase dining, festival booths, or a relaxed start is your plan, the International Gateway is perfect. If you’re racing to Test Track or Guardians at rope drop, the main entrance serves you better.

The International Gateway also connects you to the BoardWalk and the path toward Hollywood Studios, which makes it genuinely useful as a transit point, not just a park entrance.

DISNEY’S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS

Entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Image: Dustin Fuhs / StepstoMagic)

Hollywood Studios used to have a side entrance near Guest Relations that functioned as a genuine shortcut. As security bag check evolved across the resort, that entrance lost most of its practical advantage and most guests stopped using it.

Here’s the honest truth about Hollywood Studios. The entrance is not where your day is won or lost. The park is compact enough that getting in is rarely the bottleneck. What matters at Hollywood Studios is what you do in the first ten minutes once you’re inside. Your Lightning Lane reservation, your rope drop target, your plan for the morning rush, those decisions shape your day far more than which turnstile you walk through.

If you’re spending mental energy on a Hollywood Studios entrance hack, redirect it toward your arrival timing and your first attraction strategy instead.

DISNEY’S ANIMAL KINGDOM THEME PARK

Rainforest Cafe Entrance at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (Image: Dustin Fuhs)

This one exists and it works. There’s a set of turnstiles accessible through the Rainforest Cafe at the Animal Kingdom entrance that bypasses the main gate area. If you’re walking past and it looks clear, use it.

But I want to be honest with you about why this one doesn’t get the same enthusiasm from me. Animal Kingdom’s main entrance is already less chaotic than Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. The time savings are real but modest. And unlike the Contemporary walkway, there’s no meaningful experience difference between using this entrance and walking through the main gate.

It’s a nice option to have. It’s not a game changer.

Disney World is designed to move the majority of guests through the same paths, the same transportation systems, and the same entrances. It works efficiently for the masses. But efficiently for the masses means crowded for you.

Every entrance in this article exists in plain sight. None of them are restricted or secret in any technical sense. What makes them valuable is simply that most guests never think to use them. The Contemporary walkway and the EPCOT International Gateway are the two that genuinely change the feel of a park morning. They’re worth knowing, worth planning around, and completely within your control.
