Let me start with the obvious. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is awesome, and I say that as someone who has been following it since before the first announcement and has spent more hours than I can count exploring every corner of what Universal has built.
Before we get into the list there are three things you need to know. Harry Potter now spans three parks at Universal Orlando Resort. Hogsmeade is in Islands of Adventure. Diagon Alley is in Universal Studios Florida. And the Ministry of Magic, set in 1920s wizarding Paris, is in Epic Universe, which opened in May 2025. All three are connected by the Hogwarts Express between the first two parks, which requires a park to park ticket. Get it. The experience doesn’t make full sense without it.
This list covers Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida specifically. I haven’t been to Epic Universe since it opened and I’m not going to write about something I haven’t personally experienced. At the bottom of this article I’ll point you to people who have actually walked through it. That’s more useful than me guessing.

The biggest mistake people make when they arrive at the Wizarding World is following the crowd. You end up behind the annual passholders and locals who have done this dozens of times and suddenly you’re moving at their pace through something that deserves a completely fresh set of eyes. When you see Hogwarts Castle on the horizon for the first time, stop. Actually stop. Take it in. Each of these lands was built over a long period of time with new technologies and techniques as Universal learned what worked. Hogsmeade came first and they had no idea how much impact it was going to make. Go through it at your own speed, look at the details, and let yourself feel it before you start chasing the list.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is the must do experience not just in the Wizarding World but across the entire Universal Orlando Resort. I say that having been there for what came before it. Duelling Dragons stood in that same spot and that was its own world. What they built in its place is something else entirely. It’s a multiple launch steel roller coaster and the first thing most people don’t realize until they’re actually boarding is that there are two seats. The motorbike and the sidecar. My rule is simple. The biggest Harry Potter fan in your group gets the motorbike. Everyone else gets the sidecar. It’s not a punishment, it’s just the way it works. The ride itself is all about story and knowing what’s around every corner. You will wait a long time. You will deal with the Orlando heat. It is worth every minute. Height requirement is 48 inches.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts in Diagon Alley is the best storytelling attraction in the entire lineup. What most people miss is the queue. Too many guests walk straight through it without stopping and miss the entire introduction to the Gringotts bank staff that the creative team built into every corner of that space. Slow down and look around. The queue is indoors which in the Florida heat is its own reward. Single rider line is available if you want to cut your wait. Height requirement is 42 inches.

The Hogwarts Express is actually two experiences and both are worth doing separately. On the London side you board at Kings Cross Station and walk through the Platform 9 3/4 photo moment on your way through. On the Hogsmeade side you board from the village. Do both directions because the experience is genuinely different each way. Walking from park to park is a lot easier when you’re sitting in an air conditioned train car with the story continuing around you. There’s also a photo opportunity with the conductor in front of the train in Hogsmeade that’s worth the wait on its own.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is inside Hogwarts Castle and it’s a more intense experience overall than Gringotts. The attention to detail inside the castle is extraordinary. The Defence of the Dark Arts classroom, the Room of Requirement, Dementors, character cameos throughout. Keep your eyes open because they’re all in there. Single rider line is available. Height requirement is 48 inches. And as a June 2026 update worth knowing, the castle just came out of a full exterior refurbishment and repaint. It looks better than it has in years.

The Knight Bus sits just outside Diagon Alley and this is one of the most genuinely surprising experiences in either land. The conductor is outside and ready to talk and what makes it special is that they all have a story. Ask questions. Ask how they got there, what their experience has been, where the conversation takes you. This is the closest thing to a Disney style character interaction that Universal has anywhere on property and most people walk right past it without stopping. Don’t be one of those people.

Butterbeer. If you don’t know, now you know. It comes in several forms including cold, frozen, hot, ice cream, an ice bar, and various bakery items, and you can find it at multiple spots throughout both lands. My honest take is that it’s all about the original cold or the frozen. When it’s actually cold in Orlando in December or January the hot version is perfectly fine. But the cold and the frozen are what you’re really there for. Current pricing is around $9.49 and yes it has gone up significantly since the early days. It’s still worth it because you can only get it at Universal and that still means something. I typically get one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and there have been trips where I’ve grabbed one on the way out as they’re closing down the carts. No regrets.
One thing worth knowing for annual visitors: Universal runs a Butterbeer Season each spring, typically March through May, with limited time treats and seasonal variations across all three Wizarding World lands. It’s worth timing your visit around if you can.

The Gringotts Money Exchange is one of those experiences that sounds like a gift shop gimmick until you’re actually standing there. You exchange your muggle dollars for Gringotts bank notes and the goblin behind the counter will answer any question you put to him. Be creative with what you ask. It’s one of those moments that costs nothing extra and delivers more than you expect.
Ollivander’s Wand Shop is in both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade and if you’re choosing between them, go to Diagon Alley. Universal learned from the original Hogsmeade location and the result is a better indoor queue, more theming, and typically a shorter line. On the interactive wands, Universal recently upgraded to second generation wands with enhanced technology including light effects and haptic feedback, which is a genuine improvement over what came before. That said, my honest advice hasn’t changed much. If you’re there for multiple days and you want to use the spell locations throughout both lands, go for it. If you’re there for one day, think carefully before you spend the money. I have the Snape wand. It sits on my desk. I never use it. Know what you’re actually going to do with it before you commit.

Madam Malkin’s is where I’ll share my biggest personal regret in the Wizarding World. I had the chance to try on a robe, assumed we’d come back to that store later in the day, and never made it back. Don’t make that mistake. The employees are completely game to play along and the photos are worth it. Always take your time in that store and in every shop throughout both lands. Too many guests move through the retail experiences like they’re in a hurry and miss some of the best theming in either land.
Honeydukes Candy Store is one of the best representations of anything from the books that you’ll find anywhere in the Wizarding World. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Chocolate Frogs, all of it created true to form. Don’t walk past it.
And finally, the dragon above Gringotts Bank breathes fire roughly every 10 to 15 minutes. When you see people looking up, get ready. I have way too many photos of that dragon not breathing fire and only a handful with the full effect. Spend some time in that spot. When you see the crowd gathering, that’s your cue.
A quick honest note on dining. The Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks are iconic locations and absolutely worth seeing. But the food is heavy British fare and in the Orlando heat, heavy British food isn’t always what you want. Butterbeer is always the right call. A full sit down meal at either location is something to think through before you commit.

What About Epic Universe?
The Ministry of Magic, 1920s wizarding Paris, and everything Universal has added with Epic Universe represents a whole new chapter for Harry Potter fans visiting Orlando. I haven’t been since it opened and I’m not going to write about something I haven’t personally experienced. The team at All Ears has been through it thoroughly and their coverage is the most trustworthy starting point I can point you toward.
When I get down there I’ll update this with my own take. Until then the two parks covered in this article will give you more than enough magic to work with.
5 Wizarding World Mistakes I’ve Made So You Don’t Have To
- Following the crowd instead of going at my own pace. The first time you see Hogwarts Castle on the horizon is a moment you only get once. Don’t spend it trying to keep up with someone who has been there thirty times.
- Walking straight through the Gringotts queue without stopping. The detail that the creative team built into that space is extraordinary and most people miss all of it because they’re focused on getting to the ride.
- Assuming we’d come back to Madam Malkin’s later in the day. We didn’t. Try on the robe when you have the chance. There is no later.
- Not asking the Knight Bus conductor enough questions. This is one of the best character interactions at Universal Orlando and I spent years walking past it too quickly before I figured that out.
- Buying an interactive wand for a single day visit. I have the Snape wand. It sits on my desk. It has sat on my desk for years. If you’re only there for one day, watch other people use theirs and save the money for Butterbeer.
