Universal Orlando Hidden Gems — Underrated Attractions

There are experiences at Universal Orlando Resort that we will plan a trip around and attractions that we just don’t want to miss.

Then we’ve got a list of things that it’s okay to skip…but what about the things that are just happy accidents and leave you feeling like you didn’t waste your time.

Universal has some amazing attractions that folks may undervalue, underestimate and flat out sell short…so let’s take a look at them!

Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Screens can go wrong (example: Fast & The Furious), or they can be immersive and interesting.

Kong can be seen as an attraction that doesn’t live up to the expectation of having an entire media campaign built around it, but the technology is actually really interesting.

Go in with the expectation that you’re going to see something that’s similar to Navi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and you’re fine. It’s an experience that is built around a story and gives you a final “wow” moment with an out-of-this-world audio animatronic.

Okay – this is not a good attraction, but it doesn’t mean that the experience is worth skipping.

Being underrated allows for elements of the attraction to shine through, and Jimmy Fallon has a number of things going for it.

  1. The Tonight Show museum in the queue line is well worth the stop. You’re able to learn about all the hosts, from Carson to Jay and memorabilia from the seasons.
  2. The NBC Store is almost as cool as the official NBC Store at 30 Rock in New York City. And best of all, it’s air conditioned!

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Universal has a couple epic coasters, and the one that gets the forgotten about is the one at the entrance of Universal Studios Florida.

Hulk is the Hulk. The Velocicoaster is new. But outside of the viral video with Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart, there’s really no buzz.

Here’s the buzz. It’s a thrilling coaster that is definitely underrated. Give it a shot! Just remember the hidden playlist for the on-ride songs.

This article could have gone on and on, but there are some headliner experiences at Universal Orlando that would also fit as being underrated and we don’t want to get our memories wiped from mentioning the Men in Black.
