Introduction to Disney Funko Pop! Vinyl

Welcome to one of the most exciting posts that I’ve ever written for StepstoMagic.com – a post all about Disney Funko Pop! Vinyls!

If you’re like me, a Disney fan and collector of stuff that looks great on your office bookshelf, this is the post for you. Let’s look at the magical world of Disney Funko Pop! Vinyls.

What are Funko Pop! Vinyls?

The initial response from Jill is “dust collectors”, but for everyone else it’s so much more.

Funko Pop! collectibles are vinyl figurines of characters from pop culture, movies, music, and real life. They are unique and immediately recognizable due to their signature oversized heads and black eyes. Funko Pop! became quite popular in the collectable space since its rise to fame in 2010. Think of them like the sequel to Vinylmations.

Disney has a fairly large catalogue of its IP (Intellectual Property) released, including all segments of the business – so whether you’re looking for something parks related or 100 Anniversary related, they likely have something to fit your collection.

The Hunt for Rare and Exclusive Figures

The thrill of the hunt comes from the collection that you’re looking to build.

Every person who buys a Funko Pop! has a different reason for getting them. Think of this collection like Disney Pins, as you can build a collection for any reason under the sun.

Once the collection starts, you can then find backdated figures that may have been released years ago, which can raise the price or the difficulty factor for finding them.

If you ask any collector, they’ll have a few ideas about where you can find figures.

  • Book stores
  • Toys & Game stores
  • Walmart, Target, TJX, FYE, etc.
  • Amazon

Building Your Disney Funko Pop! Collection

The practical advice comes from someone who has collected for years – don’t focus on the display.

A collection can grow exponentially when you’re looking to ‘fill a space’.

Focus on the figures that you want to find. Don’t add to the collection because of a sale or because they’re new, as there’s always going to be another Funko to buy.

In addition, you’ll want to cap your spending as you can go into the rare Pops! which can be thousands of dollars.

My personal price limit is around $25-30, depending on how much I want the Funko.

Conclusion

I hope that this was helpful, as I’ve been wanting to write about my Funko Pop! Vinyl collection for years, so having a good starting point will allow for more in-depth discussions and lists around specific topics in the future.
