My Disney Experience App — Complete Introduction Guide

My Disney Experience is an essential App to keep your information at hand before and during your vacation to Walt Disney World. You’re able to make Lightning Lane reservations, buy tickets, & plan your vacation on the go!

An Introduction to the My Disney Experience App

Filled with features that are able to provide up-to-date information, the mobile app lets you view and update your plans, make dining reservations, search maps of all 4 theme parks, get real-time attraction wait times and more.

With the added wi-fi capabilities in the Disney Parks, your attachment to any hand-held device (phone, tablet, etc) is getting better and better. Along with the FuelRods partnership for portable power charging, it comes as a shock as to why friends of mine have still not heard of the My Disney Experience program (website and app).

THIS WILL HOPEFULLY CHANGE WITH SHARING THIS INFORMATION!

First off, the idea behind MDE (My Disney Experience) is to make sure that guests have all the information they would need to have a memorable vacation at their fingertips.

Secondly, it’s become more and more interactive and intuitive than the initial roll-out, which actually dates back to 2013. The app features are enhanced, the social connection is finally at a functional level. As an added bonus, the number of times that you’re stuck with an error has been reduced significantly.

Features of My Disney Experience

MOBILE ORDERING

You can plan all the right advanced dining reservations, but most quick service locations aren’t available to lock up before…which is why having access to Mobile Ordering is so huge.

From Satu’li Canteen to Pecos Bills and many more in between, the goal is to save you as much time as possible without having to stand in a massive line.

LIGHTNING LANE

The Lightning Lane section allows you to plan and update your ride choices before you’re in the park. You can even add more new reservations once you’ve finished your 3 pre-scheduled choices (availability is limited).

PARK MAPS

Viewing a park map while in the park is incredibly important as it allows you to filter shopping, first aid, washrooms and so much more!

WAIT TIMES

Have you spent money on apps that give you an idea about wait times? Well, we have, and when Disney put this feature into an update in back in 2016 and it was a game-changer back then and a game-changer to this day!

ATTRACTION HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Are you worried that your little one hasn’t grown that extra inch since booking your FP+ reservations? Well, you can check which attractions are in a specific category of height requirements without building up excitement in the group.

*Please note that Child Swap is available at most attractions that have height restrictions, so you may be able to still enjoy the attraction, in the end.*

DINING RESERVATIONS

See which restaurants have availability through the ease of your phone. Yes, you can always call 407-WDW-DINE or stop into a Guest Relations kiosk. But, why wait in another line at Walt Disney World (virtual or not) when you don’t have to? 😉

PHOTOPASS

Looking for a Photopass photographer? Want to check out your Photopass photographs? Want to SHARE your photos to all your social media channels directly from your phone? Ya! This is a reality now!

BUY TICKETS

Want to upgrade your tickets from one park to park-hopper? Want to link tickets from a 3rd party ticket vendor? All of this is accomplished through the ticket section of the app.

KEEPS YOUR DAILY SCHEDULE

Did you put together a stunning schedule that you wanted to keep on your phone? Well, you can set up notifications to prompt you that an event/activity that you’ve placed on your to-do list is getting close. Pretty cool!

DISNEY DINING TIP

Most folks think they are locked into their reservations once you book them. As long as you cancel your dining reservation 24 hours+ in advance, you’re not charged a fee.

This means that if you see a Tusker House or a Sci-Fi Dine-in reservation pop up on your app, you can grab it when you’re in line at Expedition Everest the day before (and yes, I’ve done that!)
