5 Attractions to Skip in the Magic Kingdom

Share post:

I LOVE THE MAGIC KINGDOM!

Seriously, this is my home-away-from-home, but there are a few attractions that stick out like a sore thumb in such a magical park. This is why we have decided to share with you the 5 attractions to skip. Does this mean that they are bad? Absolutely not! The list is filled with attractions that we would suggest that you do during very specific times, like rain storms or if there’s no line.

StepsToMagic.com is all about the insider tips, tricks and plans to make your experience within the Orlando area as epic as possible. If we were to say that everything is amazing, then we would have NO credibility.

ASTRO ORBITER

Disney’s description of the Astro Orbiter: “Pilot your very own spaceship high in the sky above Tomorrowland amid a gleaming constellation of orbiting planets.”

The number of times that we’ve ran to Space Mountain first thing in the morning to get in line would make you just shake your head. Every time that we make the dash, we see all of the other attractions opening and getting set for the day in the most Magical Place on Earth…and then we see the Astro Orbiter…and we question why it’s still around.

First off, the attraction is located on the roof of a quick service food location and you have to get up there somehow. The queue line is actually for the elevator…and it’s so slow!

Secondly, the attraction ride vehicles are uncomfortable.

Thirdly, Outside of the amazing views you can get at night, it’s definitely not in the Top 20 attractions in the Kingdom that you should visit.

When should you try this attraction? During Extra Magic Hours

TOMORROWLAND INDY SPEEDWAY

Disney’s description of the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway:
”Put the pedal to the metal in your very own hotrod and cruise along a scenic miniature motorway.”

The biggest knock against the Indy Speedway is time.

The cars are outdated and filled with outdated technology.

The course leaves a lot to be desired.

Compared to other car attractions @ Disney Parks (Test Track 2.0 & Radiator Springs Racers), the Speedway lacks a compelling storyline.

When should you try this attraction? If you have youngsters OR if there are no lines…then by all means!

COUNTRY BEAR JAMBOREE

Disney’s description of the Country Bear Jamboree:
”Have a knee-slappin’ good time at this jolly country-and-western show starring a hilarious bunch of singing bears.”

This attraction has such a rich history that it doesn’t really deserve to be on this list…but here it is anyway! When the Jamboree went under for refurbishment a few years ago, the show was shortened and made more “Friendly” by taking out certain elements of the original lineup.

Does this mean that it’s a bad show? Absolutely not! That being said, you definitely shouldn’t wait for more than a few minutes to see it…unless it’s pouring…then wait and escape the torrential storm:)

MAD TEA PARTY

Disney’s description of the Mad Tea Party: Pour yourself into an oversized teacup and twirl quickly or slowly amid a menagerie of color and sound

You spin me right round…just like every other teacup ride in existence. Did you eat recently, or are you planning to eat shortly? If the answer is “yes” then you should say “no” to the ride kinda-somewhat-themed to Alice in Wonderland.

Tip: If you actually find yourself on this ride and start to feel dizzy…just look down. It’ll help!

Second Tip: Yes, you can get a Fastpass+ reservation for the Mad Tea Party – but you shouldn’t.

There’s no reason to actually plan to do it, as your reservations are incredibly valuable.

THE MAGIC CARPETS OF ALADDIN

Disney’s description of the Magic Carpets of Aladdin: Take off on a magical ride above a bustling bazaar aboard an enchanted carpet that you control.

What does Dumbo, Astro Orbiter, Tricera Top Spin and the Magic Carpets of Aladdin have in common? They’re all spinners. AND three of them are in the Magic Kingdom Theme Park! In addition to that fact, many of the features of the Carpets aren’t currently working and the attraction needs a little TLC:)

Just skip it…and if you really want to do a spinner…go with the originator and head to New Fantasyland with Dumbo!

Did we get it right? What attractions would you add to the list?
