Magic Kingdom Attractions to Skip — 5 You Can Miss

I LOVE the Magic Kingdom – it’s my happy place! But let’s be real: not every attraction deserves a spot on your must-do list. After countless visits and helping thousands of guests plan their perfect Disney day, I’ve identified the attractions you can confidently skip (unless you find yourself in some very specific situations).

At StepsToMagic.com, we’re all about giving you the real scoop. If we told you everything was amazing, we’d have zero credibility! So let me break down which attractions you can pass on to maximize your precious park time.

1. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor

Disney’s Description: “Join Mike Wazowski and a hilarious crew of monster comedians who are ready to win you over with their funny bone-tickling jokes and sight gags.”

Look, I appreciate what they’re trying to do here – interactive entertainment with real-time animation is pretty cool technology. But here’s the thing: the jokes are pretty corny (and repeat a lot if you’ve been before), the shows can be hit-or-miss depending on audience participation, and you’ll spend a good chunk of time just waiting to get into the theater.

Plus, in a park filled with incredible dark rides and classic attractions, sitting in a theater for a comedy show just feels like an odd use of your precious Magic Kingdom time. Trust me on this one – unless you’re desperately seeking air conditioning, there are better ways to spend your day.

When to Try It: On a blazing hot afternoon when you need a solid 15-20 minutes of cool air, or if you’ve got kids who love participating in shows. It’s also not a bad choice during those infamous Florida thunderstorms!

2. Tomorrowland Speedway

Disney’s Description: “Put the pedal to the metal in your very own hotrod and cruise along a scenic miniature motorway.”

Time is your most valuable resource at Disney World, and this attraction is a serious time sink. The cars are showing their age (and don’t even get me started on that gas smell), the track is basic at best, and when you compare it to modern Disney attractions… well, there’s just no comparison.

When to Try It: If you’ve got little ones who dream of driving OR if you happen to walk by and see a 5-minute wait (which, let’s be honest, is rare!)

3. Swiss Family Treehouse

Disney’s Description: “Scale this towering tree house inspired by the classic Disney film Swiss Family Robinson.”

Here’s the thing – while the craftsmanship and details are impressive, it’s a lot of climbing in the Florida heat. You’ll climb 116 steps in total, and while the views of the castle are nice, you can get better ones elsewhere without the workout.

When to Try It: Early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler, or if you’re a huge fan of the original movie. It’s also a nice spot to escape crowds and take a breather (if you don’t mind the stairs!)

4. Mad Tea Party

Disney’s Description: “Pour yourself into an oversized teacup and twirl quickly or slowly amid a menagerie of color and sound.”

You’ll find spinning teacup rides at pretty much any amusement park. Unless you particularly love getting dizzy (or have kids who do), this is an easy skip. Here’s a pro tip: if you do end up riding, look down at the center of your teacup to avoid that queasy feeling!

When to Try It: Late at night when it’s all lit up (it’s prettier then), or if you need a quick break from the heat – the queue is usually covered and well-ventilated.

5. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Disney’s Description: “Take off on a magical ride above a bustling bazaar aboard an enchanted carpet that you control.”

Here’s the truth – the Magic Kingdom has THREE spinning rides (four if you count the Teacups): Dumbo, Astro Orbiter, and this one. If you’re going to do any spinner, make it Dumbo in New Fantasyland. The Magic Carpets are basically Dumbo with a different theme, and honestly, some of the special effects aren’t even working properly anymore.

When to Try It: If your little ones are desperate for a spinner but Dumbo’s line is too long. Or during those surprise Florida rainstorms – the queue has decent coverage.

The Bottom Line

Trust me, skipping these attractions won’t diminish your magical experience one bit. Focus your time on the park’s stellar dark rides, mountain range (Space and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – Big Thunder is closed in 2026), and classic attractions like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. This list originally had Astro Orbiter on it, but as it’s down for an extended period – it’s not worth thinking about it.

What do you think? Would you add any other attractions to this skip list? Or do you actually love some of these and think I’m totally wrong? Let me know in the comments!
