Hollywood Studios Changes — Monsters & Muppets Coming Soon

Monstrous Changes and Musical Makeovers Transform Disney's Park

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is undergoing its biggest transformation since the addition of Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land, with two major announcements: a new Monsters Inc. land replacing Muppet*Vision 3D, and a complete retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to feature the Muppets in a musical adventure.

The closure of Muppet*Vision 3D marks the end of an era.

As one of the last projects personally overseen by Jim Henson, this 3D show has been entertaining guests since 1991 when the park was called Disney MGM Studios. The theater and surrounding area will be transformed into a new Monsters Inc. land, featuring Disney’s first suspended coaster recreating the door vault scene from the film.

We’ll be hearing additional details as the construction starts, but expect the full land transformation, including the closure of Pizzerizzo, Mama Melrose, It’s a Wonderful Shop and more. We’ll also be seeing the full demolition of Studio One.

While losing their original home, the Muppets aren’t leaving Hollywood Studios entirely.

Instead, they’re taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for a music festival-themed experience. This marks the first-ever Muppets-themed ride in Disney history, promising a blend of high-speed thrills with the Muppets’ signature humor.

With Aerosmith announcing that they weren’t going to tour anymore, the writing was on the wall for a retheme. Over the years, numerous concepts have been rumoured to take over, including The Jonas Brothers. It’s going to be nice to see an update to a land that’s been in need of a new identity.

Impact on Hollywood Studios

These changes represent a significant shift for the park’s identity. By replacing two long-standing attractions with new experiences, Disney is betting on the enduring appeal of Monsters Inc. while giving the Muppets a fresh platform.
