Disney vs Universal Snacks — Ultimate Orlando Showdown

As a former Disney Cast Member, former podcast host (Universal Joint with Jim Hill & We Like Theme Parks) and frequent visitor to both resorts going back more than 15 years, I’ve had my fair share of theme park snacks (it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!). While both Universal Orlando and Disney World offer incredible attractions and entertainment, today we’re diving fork-first into one of the most important aspects of any theme park visit: the snacks!

Let’s put these parks head-to-head in ten mouthwatering categories to help you plan your snacking strategy.

1. Frozen Drink Face-Off: Butterbeer vs. LeFou’s Brew

Universal’s Champion: Butterbeer (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter)
Disney’s Champion: LeFou’s Brew (Gaston’s Tavern, Magic Kingdom)

The frozen Butterbeer at Universal has become legendary, with its butterscotch-cream soda fusion topped with a vanilla cream foam. Meanwhile, Disney’s LeFou’s Brew offers a unique frozen apple juice with a hint of toasted marshmallow, topped with passion fruit-mango foam. While both are refreshing, Butterbeer’s cultural impact and perfect execution make it the winner in this category.

Winner: Universal

2. Dessert Duel: Voodoo Doughnut vs. Gideon’s/Everglazed

Universal’s Champion: Voodoo Doughnut (CityWalk)
Disney’s Champion: Gideon’s Bakehouse/Everglazed (Disney Springs)

This is a tough one! Voodoo brings their Portland charm with quirky flavors and Instagram-worthy designs. However, the combination of Gideon’s nearly half-pound cookies and Everglazed’s creative donut combinations gives Disney the edge. Those massive Gideon’s cookies alone are worth the wait in line.

Winner: Disney

3. Tasty Tots: Green Eggs and Ham vs. Woody’s Lunch Box

Universal’s Champion: Green Eggs & Ham Tots (Seuss Landing)
Disney’s Champion: Totchos (Woody’s Lunch Box, Hollywood Studios)

While Universal’s Green Eggs & Ham tots are a fun twist on a classic, Disney’s Totchos at Woody’s Lunch Box take the humble tot to new heights with corn chips, chili, cheese, and all the fixings. The portion size and variety of toppings make this an easy win for Disney.

Winner: Disney

4. Magnificent Milkshakes: Toothsome vs. Beaches & Cream

Universal’s Champion: Toothsome Chocolate Emporium
Disney’s Champion: Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

Toothsome’s over-the-top milkshakes are practically meals unto themselves, with elaborate toppings and presentations that make them perfect for social media. While Beaches & Cream’s Kitchen Sink and classic shakes are delicious, Toothsome’s creativity and presentation can’t be beaten.

Winner: Universal

5. Dole Whip Showdown: Schwab’s vs. Aloha Isle

Universal’s Champion: Schwab’s Pharmacy
Disney’s Champion: Aloha Isle (Magic Kingdom)

While Universal makes a valiant effort with their version at Schwab’s, Disney’s Dole Whip is the original and still the best. The perfect swirl, consistency, and variety of flavors at Aloha Isle make this an easy win for Disney.

Winner: Disney

6. Popcorn Paradise: Universal’s Classic vs. Disney’s Specialty Flavors

Universal’s Champion: Traditional Movie Theater Popcorn
Disney’s Champion: Specialty Popcorn Flavors & Collectible Buckets

While Universal offers solid movie theater-style popcorn, Disney elevates the experience with unique flavors like cheddar, caramel, and seasonal specialties, plus those coveted collectible buckets that have become a phenomenon of their own.

Winner: Disney

7. Pretzel Perfection: Bavarian vs. Mickey

Universal’s Champion: Bavarian Pretzel (multiple locations)
Disney’s Champion: Mickey Pretzel with Cheese (multiple locations)

Universal’s traditional Bavarian pretzel is authentically delicious, but there’s something magical about biting into a warm, Mickey-shaped pretzel with that liquid cheese sauce. The nostalgia factor and Instagram-worthiness give Disney the edge.

Things are better when they are shaped like the big cheese…especially when you’re eating it WITH CHEESE!

Winner: Disney

8. Ice Cream Innovation: Cold Stone Creamery vs. Plaza Ice Cream Parlor

Universal’s Champion: Cold Stone Creamery (CityWalk)
Disney’s Champion: Plaza Ice Cream Parlor (Magic Kingdom)

While Cold Stone offers customization and entertainment value with their mixing process, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor’s hand-scooped ice cream with a view of Cinderella Castle is hard to beat. However, Cold Stone’s mix-in variety and portion sizes make it the victor.

Winner: Universal

9. Candy Creation: Honeydukes vs. Main Street Confectionery

Universal’s Champion: Honeydukes (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter)
Disney’s Champion: Main Street Confectionery

Both locations offer incredible sweets, but Honeydukes brings the magical world of Harry Potter to life with chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, and other book-accurate treats. The immersion factor gives Universal the win here.

Winner: Universal

10. Savory Snack Sensation: Turkey Legs

Universal’s Champion: Turkey Leg (Jurassic Park Popcorn)
Disney’s Champion: Turkey Leg (Liberty Square Marketplace)

Both parks offer these massive, smoky treats, but Disney’s version has become iconic, with a slightly better smoking process and seasoning blend that makes them just a bit more crave-worthy.

Winner: Disney

Final Tally

Disney World: 6 wins
Universal Orlando: 4 wins

While Disney takes the overall crown in our snack showdown, both parks offer incredible treats that are worth trying. The real winners? Your taste buds, no matter which park you choose!
