Anyone who’s waited in line at Costco might think they know what a long wait feels like. But as seasoned Disney World visitors know, theme park queues are in a league of their own. As a former Cast Member, I’ve experienced these lines from both sides of the attraction, and today I’m sharing my insights on the most challenging queues at Walt Disney World.
Magic Kingdom’s Deceptive Queues
Space Mountain

The ultimate exercise in false hope. Just when you think you’ve reached the end, another turn appears. The Lightning Lane guests zooming past only emphasize why the standard queue can be such a test of patience. If you’re planning to ride, a Lightning Lane reservation will be your best friend here.
Peter Pan’s Flight
Despite recent upgrades to the queue experience with interactive elements in “scene one,” this classic attraction still baffles me with its consistently long lines. From rope drop to park close, you’ll find wait times exceeding 100 minutes – all for an aerial omnimover system! The new features are nice, but they don’t justify the marathon wait times.
Haunted Mansion

While not entirely terrible, the outdoor section of the Haunted Mansion‘s queue presents specific challenges. The lack of operating fans and guests’ confusion about filling “dead space” can make the experience less than pleasant. What’s particularly disappointing is that the most interesting part of the queue remains closed, with lines now stretching through Liberty Square instead of the extended queue area.
EPCOT’s Queue Challenges
Frozen Ever After

As my friend Jill once noted, it’s a “very themed queue,” but that theming doesn’t make up for the painfully slow movement. The main room has more switchbacks than Disney ticket increases in 2025 (and that’s saying something!).
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
EPCOT seems to have a knack for challenging queue lines, and Remy’s is no exception. You’ll encounter a massive outdoor switchback area before entering a series of underwhelming indoor rooms. The silver lining? At least there’s air conditioning once you get inside!
Soarin’
The addition of a third theater should have brought queue improvements, but we’re still stuck with one of EPCOT’s most mundane waiting areas. Yes, there’s fantastic attraction music and some interactive games, but they pale in comparison to what you’ll find at Space Mountain. The cherry on top? Watching confused guests accidentally join the Living with the Land line instead!
Animal Kingdom’s Queue Conundrum
Kilimanjaro Safaris

While the attraction itself is breathtaking, the queue does it no favors. The outdated conservation message (remember Big Red?), ancient tube TVs, and footage that looks like it was filmed during the original run of Boy Meets World all make for a less-than-stellar waiting experience. Add limited air circulation in the partially covered outdoor queue and Lightning Lane delays that can stretch to an hour-plus, and you’ve got a recipe for frustration.
Special Event Struggles
Jack and Sally at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party
This is less about the queue itself and more about poor planning. Waiting 4 hours to meet rare characters during a special ticketed event that costs $120+ is problematic enough. It’s even worse when you realize that many people in line haven’t even paid for the event! While recent changes have moved their location, there’s still room for improvement – like utilizing existing meet-and-greet locations such as Town Square Theatre or Princess Fairytale Hall.
Tips for Managing Long Queues:
- Consider Lightning Lane options for attractions like Space Mountain and Peter Pan’s Flight
- Visit high-demand attractions during off-peak hours
- Take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry if staying at a Disney Resort
- Download games or bring entertainment for longer waits
- Stay hydrated and cool during outdoor queue sections
