Universal Orlando Resort is about to unveil its fourth theme park, Epic Universe, with a grand opening set for May 22, 2025. This groundbreaking new park promises to deliver unprecedented levels of immersion across five distinct worlds, each filled with extraordinary adventures that push the boundaries of theme park experiences.
For Disney-focused visitors planning future Orlando vacations, understanding what Epic Universe offers will be crucial for maximizing your time and budget in the increasingly competitive Orlando theme park landscape. Whether you’re considering adding Universal to your Disney vacation or simply staying informed about major developments, here’s what you need to know about this significant addition to Universal Orlando Resort.
1. The Chronos Serves as the Gateway to Five Unique Worlds

The park’s design centers around the Chronos portal, which serves as the main entrance gateway. Unlike traditional theme park layouts, Epic Universe features a central hub called Celestial Park that connects to four completely separate themed worlds. This hub-and-spoke design allows each land to maintain stronger thematic boundaries than typical themed areas.
In Celestial Park itself, guests can ride a shooting comet-themed roller coaster, enjoy dining venues, and shop for exclusive merchandise. This area serves as both an immersive land of its own and the connection point to the park’s other worlds.
2. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Expands to the Ministry of Magic

The third Wizarding World land in Universal Orlando takes guests to a new era and location within the Harry Potter universe. Set in 1920s Paris, visitors will explore Place Cachée, a hidden wizarding shopping district featuring venues like Café L’air De La Sirène and Les Galeries Mirifiques.
The land will also feature Le Cirque Arcanus, a full-scale theatre experience, and connect to the British Ministry of Magic. The signature attraction, “Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry,” will feature the trial of Dolores Umbridge, providing a fresh storyline within the Wizarding World.

3. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Brings Iconic Video Game Characters to Life

Following the success of similar lands in Universal Studios Japan and Hollywood, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will immerse guests in the colorful worlds of Nintendo’s most beloved characters. Visitors will enter through the iconic green pipe to discover familiar places inspired by Nintendo games, including Mt. Beanpole.
While specific attractions weren’t detailed in the press release, the land will feature Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong and other Nintendo characters. Universal describes this as their “most colorful and interactive experience yet,” suggesting gameplay elements similar to those in existing Nintendo lands at other Universal parks.
4. How to Train Your Dragon Creates a Full-Scale Isle of Berk

Based on the popular DreamWorks Animation films, the Isle of Berk will feature a sweeping vista directly inspired by the movies, complete with a vast sparkling lagoon and two 40-foot-tall Viking statues. The land’s village sits perched above churning seas, creating a dramatic setting for several attractions.
Confirmed experiences include Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, where guests can experience dragon flight, and Fyre Drill, a competitive water attraction where visitors can “outscore and out soak” fellow guests. The land will also offer photo opportunities with Toothless and other experiences inspired by the film series.
5. Dark Universe Revives Universal’s Classic Monster Legacy
Exploring Universal’s horror heritage, Dark Universe invites guests to the shadowy village of Darkmoor, home to classic Universal Monsters like Dracula, The Wolf Man, and Frankenstein’s Monster. The imposing Frankenstein Manor serves as the land’s visual centerpiece.
The signature attraction, “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment,” is being promoted as Universal Orlando’s “most chilling attraction ever.” According to the press release, guests will venture deep into the manor’s catacombs and face a horde of enraged monsters, suggesting a more intense horror experience than typical theme park attractions.
