How To Use Pinterest Disney Style

Pinterest is a great social media forum for like-minded individuals to get together to share ideas, tips, and advice – and it has probably brought you to our site! Welcome:)

The original goal of Pinterest is “to become the world’s catalog of ideas. Find and save recipes, parenting hacks, style inspiration and other ideas to try.” And although the temptation is to say that’s all they do, it stops short of how Disney fans utilize it, and how we use it at StepsToMagic.com!

We’ve started to create a community of ideas, thoughts, and plans that could actually help your experience before, during and after your trip to Orlando. As you may know, Steps To Magic is more than a basic “how-to guide”, as I’m a former Cast Member from Walt Disney World and a few more years with Disney up here in Toronto.

This gives me the opportunity to share multiple levels of trip planning advice, from the local and the not-so-local-but-did-for-a-while-and-wants-to-again-in-the-future side of things.

Here are our Top Tips for How To Use Pinterest for the Disney / Travel Lover!

Welcome!

If you’re new to Pinterest, the numbers are astonishing! 75 Billion Pins…175 million users…

This means that not only is it overwhelming, but it’s also easy to get sidetracked into clicking from one pin to the next and not having a system. We recommend starting simple with a few boards:

  • “I Want” board = Do you want it? Pin it to this board
  • “I Need” board = Do you need it? Pin it here
  • “Just take my money” board = This usually involves something that’s a DIY or a piece of art that you just need in your life.

Group Boards

We have found a calling with Group Boards, as it’s an easy way to see what’s available within the community. It’s also a great place to find content that may be hidden by ‘Sponsored Pins’ or ‘Rich Pins’. We like to spend our time anything entitled “Disney Fans” or boards with 10+ authors.

Share Your Thoughts

Is there a subject that you know inside out, like Dole Whip consistency…or the worst quick service restaurants to eat at…and you stumble upon a post that shares the opposite opinion?

Pinterest allows you to “try” a pin and add a comment about what’s right or wrong about it (in your opinion). This is great because a lot of new Travel Agents are joining Pinterest and they are afraid to give their honest opinion on a restaurant experience for fear that they’ll end up on the naughty list, so they’ll say things like “The best place to eat for lunch is Cosmic Rays”. 😉

Be open and honest about your experiences as you try things, as you’re helping to build the community for the better!

Suggestions

When you’re searching for the same thing over and over, Pinterest’s algorithm will provide you with similar pins as suggestions. If you change up the wording or use some of the ‘suggested’ words at the top of the search box, you never know what will come up!

It’s actually incredibly fun to do some deep diving into the unknown. Search “Disney World Tips by Kids” and you’ll see what I mean!

Use Pinterest in your own way

Say you’re going on a trip to Walt Disney World in 181+ days. First off, LUCKY…and secondly, great idea!
Build a few boards around your trip itinerary, like “I Want to Eat Here” and “I Want to Ride These” and “I want to buy”…and then start to pin ideas.

It’s easier to have a game-plan with too much information than to worry about being unprepared. Remember that you can start to book your dining reservations 180 days out, so having a plan before is definitely recommended.

Make Your Boards

  • Do you like Disney Crafts? Make a Disney DIY Craft Board
  • Do you love Disney food? Curate your own recipes from your favourite restaurants and menus
  • Do you have a think for helping others plan their trips to Walt Disney World? Create a board called “Future Disney Trip Ideas for Friends” and share them on Facebook or Instagram!

Did we miss anything? Do you have any recommendations for folks just starting out on Pinterest? Share in the comments!
