What’s new in 2018 at Disney World

To spotlight attractions, shows, restaurants and events that are making (or have recently made) their debut, we’ve put together a list of things to check out on your next trip to Walt Disney World!

What’s new in 2018 at Disney World

Avatar Flight of Passage – Attraction @ Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The highlight of Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is by far and away Flight of Passage. This 3-D adventure takes you on a scenic trip to Pandora on the back of a banshee (or ikran). To say that you’ll enjoy yourself is an understatement, as the technology and the story-elements have joined together seamlessly throughout the attraction. You’ll actually feel like you’re in Pandora, with the smells, sights and sounds all surrounding your adventure!

Caring for Giants – Backstage Tour @ Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Guests of all ages are introduced to the world of African Elephants through this backstage tour. The experts share their strategies for day-to-day care of these magical animals in this 60-minute experience. Put that together with the passion that the cast members have for preservation and conservation of the natural world, this is a Gotta See if you’re an animal lover! Cost is around $30 per person (not including park admission, which is required)

The Edison – Restaurant @ Disney Springs

This new dining venue at Disney Springs is modelled after the original 1920’s themed restaurant in Los Angeles. The menu will bring classic American cuisine to the forefront, along with unique cocktails and live entertainment.

Epcot International Festival of the Arts

January 12th to February 19th, 2018

EPCOT is known for their various festivals that bring guests from far and wide to culinary and cultural experiences. The International Festival of the Arts is no difference, as getting the opportunity to meet artists, food it up with Food & Wine-style kiosks and of course…explore the World Showcase!

The Ale & Compass – Restaurant @ Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

For those who have followed my dining adventures in the past, we loved the Captain’s Grille at Yacht Club Resort…so this re-imagined spot is on our list of things to check out! It will bring together an essence of an off-shore lighthouse and some good ol’ fashioned New England comfort food. Hopefully they still have some solid vegetarian options and a steak that melts in your mouth!

Happily ever after – Fireworks Show @ Magic Kingdom

Anytime the Magic Kingdom debuts a new nighttime spectacular, it’s gotta bring it! Coming off the long-lasting Wishes fireworks show (and incredibly catchy soundtrack), Happily Ever After has hit it out of the park with the mix of projection mapping of Cinderella’s Castle, classic movie tie-ins and one heck of a show that will leave you with goosebumps!

Let the Magic Begin – Opening Show @ Magic Kingdom

We’ve grown accustomed to the Welcome Show in front of the Train Station at Magic Kingdom, but things have to change and evolve. Let the Magic Begin is the new morning welcome greeting, which not only brings a number of classic characters (including Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale & more) but it also allows guests the opportunity to enter the park early to start out the day shopping on Main Street USA!

Miss Adventure Falls – Attraction @ Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon added this family-friendly raft ride, which takes guests on an adventure of treasures left behind by a stranded captain. Although it’s only 2-minutes in length…it’s definitely worth adding to your touring plan at the water park.

The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History – Show at Magic Kingdom

I’ve always loved The Muppets, so when this daytime show made its debut in Liberty Square…it became a GOTTA SEE in the Magic Kingdom! Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Sam Eagle (and many more) bring their style to the celebration of American life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (aka dole whips) to the huge crowds!

Na’Vi River Journey – Attraction @ Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Although not as awesome as the Flight of Passage, this pleasant river journey is similar to the Jungle Cruise…just with more bioluminenscent features and less jokes about the backside of water;)

The Journey is generally enjoyed by most folks, but keep in mind that it is by no means a comparison to the other offering in Pandora: The World of Avatar. Knowing that fact will allow you to keep your expectations in check.

Paddlefish – Dining @ Disney Springs

The boat at Disney Springs has been known by a number of names (most recently as Fulton’s), but the re-imagining of the restaurant has brought a seafood-focused dining option to a spot that needed some class. Paddlefish is a signature dining experience, so with the two-table service credit price tag will bring with it high expectations…so keep that in mind!

Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage – Bay Lake

Adding to the popularity of the pirate culture at Walt Disney World, this is an opportunity to hob-nob with a few classic characters before heading out to the Seven Seas Lagoon to view Happily Ever After @ The Magic Kingdom from a spectacular spot! Pricing is around $121 per adult and $43 per child (age 3-9) and reservations are required…so if you’re already doing things like the Pirate’s League, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the interactive game ‘A Pirate’s Adventures’ then add this to your list!

The Polite Pig – Dining @ Disney Springs

Quick service dining at Disney Springs has received a huge overhaul with the addition of great food concepts, like the Polite Pig. The menu is appealing for a number of reasons, but the top of the list is the style of cooking called “modern barbecue”. Add this to your list of dining options to check out while you’re planning your schedule!

Wine Bar George – Dining @ Disney Springs

As Disney Springs grows, we see a number of non-traditional theme park restaurant and dining locations popping up. George Miliotes, a Master Sommelier, brings his cozy elegance to The Landing. With more than 100+ wines on the list, you’ll be sure to find an option to match your pallette!

Always remember to see what’s new at Walt Disney World, as things are constantly evolving throughout the resort.
